Laura Hessburg is a Senior Health Policy Advisor for Reproductive Health Programs at the Washington, D.C.-based non-profit, the National Partnership for Women & Families.

Ms. Hessburg was special guest of Future Choices for the May 2010 episode discussing the impact of 2010 Health Care Reform legislation on women's reproductive health care.

Her work focuses on promoting efforts to expand access to quality, affordable, and comprehensive reproductive health care for all women, especially low-income women.
Prior to joining the National Partnership, Ms. Hessburg worked in Washington, D.C. for over 16 years as a lobbyist and former Congressional staffer.  She was the Director of Public Policy for the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association where she developed and implemented policy and legislative strategies to ensure access to reproductive health care for low-income women. She was also the Manager of Government Relations at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and managed outreach to state policymakers while at the Children’s Defense Fund.  

Ms. Hessburg served as a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill for 7 years where she provided guidance on legislative strategy and drafted legislative materials for Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Representatives Bruce Vento (D-MN), Karan English (D-AZ) and Dave Nagle (D-IA).  


Ms. Hessburg received a B.A. in History from the University of Northern Iowa.
