Dr. Winifride Mwebesa, the Family Planning and Reproductive Health Advisor at Save the Children, based in Washington DC. In her current position, she is responsible for providing technical and program management direction in assuring the quality of Save the Children’s Reproductive Health, Family Planning and Safe Motherhood programs.

Winifride was born in Uganda, grew up in Belgium and earned her M.D. and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Catholic University of Louvain in Brussels, Belgium. She also holds a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.

Prior to joining Save the Children, Winifride worked in South Africa as the clinical head of a very busy obstetric and gynecology department in Klerksdorp Provincial Hospital. She also has working experience in Belgium, Uganda, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Guinea, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda and Mozambique. She is fluent in English, French and Runyankole and proficient in Dutch.
